The South Carolina reserves defeated Wingate 36-12 Saturday.
The purpose of the contest, held at the Wingate campus near Charlotte, was to help Wingate develop their young 15s program. USC donated two players to Wingate, who were a bit short on players, and the contest was instructive for both sides.
First half trys were dotted down by Cole Manly, Josh Cancro and Will Mahaffey for the Gamecocks, who controlled possession during most of the first 40 minutes. Chance Connoly and Hunter Smith added trys in the second half.
For their part Wingate had some athletic players who were not afraid of contact. And the Bulldogs scored two trys in the second half.
With the win, the record for USC reserves moves to 3-1.
