In a weekend of close games and dramatic finishes, the Gamecocks finished 2-2 at the National Collegiate Rugby 7s Championships Friday and Saturday.

The win tally was respectable, but short of our goals.

The Gamecocks opened with a resounding 22-7 win over Oregon State.  Against UMass, USC built a 14-0 lead but could not withstand a rally and fell 19-20 on the last play of the game.

It was more of the same again West Chester. The Gamecocks constructed an early lead. The Golden Rams rallied. Then the Gamecocks appeared to take the lead with a try near the 12-minute mark. But the try was nullified, and the Golden Rams found the try zone twice in the remaining minutes to win 26-14.

On Saturday, USC bested Tennessee 22-15 in a close back and forth game. USC outscored their four opponents 79-70. Charlie Feehan and Jack Gallagher led the Gamecocks in scoring with four and three trys respectively.

The Gamecocks bid farewell to Matt Morrow, Pat Emch and Peter Blackburn who are lost to graduation.
