The South Carolina Rugby Team fell short of a Southeastern Collegiate Rugby Conference championship, dropping a 14-22 decision to Clemson in the finals Saturday in Greer.

In a close game, the Gamecocks failed to capitalize on several scoring opportunities deep in Clemson territory. The Tigers, who played excellent defense, also held up a try.

USC roared through early pool play defeating Kennesaw State, Clemson and Alabama each by a score of 47-0. The Gamecocks faced a feisty Kentucky squad in the pool play finals. The Wildcats led early, but USC stormed back to salvage a 28-28 tie and advanced to the finals on points.

Kentucky would go on to defeat Tennessee and finish third.

Pierson Braddock and Grant Ruhlen led the Gamecocks in scoring with 5 trys each.

The Gamecocks now turn their attention to the National Collegiate Rugby 7s Championship April 24-24 in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
